West Essex Jewelers was founded in 1977 when Thomas Callahan opened his store in downtown West Caldwell, New Jersey, located in the western part of Historical Essex County. In July 2006, with nearly 20 years experience in the industry, Joseph Sapienza purchased the store from Thomas Callahan.
